Surface Water Rescue

Course Overview:

20 hour program - meet or exceed NFPA 1006/1670 requirements.

The Surface Water Rescue program is designed for the fire/rescue/first responder/EMS who, in the course of their duties, would respond to a surface water incident in a organized manner including lakes, rivers and flood situations.

The program covers the command and team approach to such incidents providing instruction on the knowledge of the danger of water, lakes and fast moving water.

The program covers how to read the rivers and lakes, preplanning, equipment requirements and use, shore-based, contact and boat-based rescue.

Also covered in the program is casualty handling and moving, hypothermia and cold water near drowning and the submerged casualty.

Practical skills session involve boat handling, search techniques, casualty removal from the water, and submerged casualty search.
